We have some MLS action on tap Friday night from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, as the Colorado Rapids host the Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Colorado Rapids will be eager to snap a six game losing streak after falling to Portland in their last outing by a final score of 3-2. Portland opened the scoring in the 29th before the Rapids equalized on an own goal two minutes later. The Timbers eventually pulled 3-1 ahead in the 56th minute, and it stayed that way until Yannick Boli put home a penalty nine minutes into injury time. Joe Mason was held off of the scoresheet, but still leads the Rapids with two goals this season, while Enzo Martinez and Tommy Smith are tied for the team lead with 10 shots, 4 on target each with Smith tying with Johan Blomberg for the team lead with two assists this season.

The Vancouver Whitecaps will look to put forth a positive result after going winless in eight of their last nine games, including a fourth consecutive score draw with a 3-3 tie against New England in their last outing. The Whitecaps fell behind 2-0 within 48 minutes, but Cristian Techera scored two goals in two minutes to equalize. New England went up 3-2 before Techera completed the hat trick in the 74th minute, leading to the score being level at full time. Techera’s hat trick overtook Kei Kamara for the team lead with 5 goals this season, however Kamara does lead Vancouver with 3 assists and 26 shots this season with Techera leading the Whitecaps with 10 shots on target.
Five of the last eight meetings between these two teams have seen both get on the scoreboard, while alternating wins and draws in each of the last six matchups, with the most recent being a 2-1 Whitecaps victory in September 2017.
At home or not, there’s no value in taking a favorite who has lost their last six games. On the other hand, Vancouver hasn’t really done anything to warrant putting my hard earned money on them for a victory either. Instead, I see these two teams cancelling each other out, and I see this one ending in a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.
