Germany and Saudi Arabia meet Friday in International Friendly soccer action in Leverkusen, Germany.

Germany plays its last friendly match before defending its World Cup title and beginning with an opening match against Mexico. Germany is considered by many to be the favorites for the upcoming World Cup, as this club is as balanced as any, rises the occasion of the match and has four double-digit scorers, so offense can come from a variety of ways. Germany is sitting pretty in terms of competing for another crown, but this is also a club that just lost to Austria 2-1 and was shutout by Brazil. Joachim Low was not happy at all with his clubs performance in their last match and says his team has a lot to work on due to its sloppiness. Maybe that’s just coach speech to make sure players keep their edge or maybe there’s reasons to be concerned. Regardless, Germany does deserve the benefit of the doubt as we gear up for Russia.

Saudi Arabia vs. Germany - 6/8/18 International Friendly Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Saudi Arabia is preparing for its first World Cup berth since 2006, and it will actually be the opening match against Russia. Saudi Arabia heads into this match losing four of its last seven games, which includes a recent 3-0 loss to Peru. Saudi Arabia has had issues finding the back of the net at times, and I’m not sure leaving Nawaf Al-Abed off the squad is going to help those offensive numbers. The Green Falcons still have three double-digit scorers on its current squad and has a lot of experience overall, but this club needs more top tier talent if expected to hang with the big boys in the tournament. Of course, a meeting against one of the most popular picks to win the tournament gives Saudi Arabia a measuring stick before the matches actually count in about a week.

These two clubs played back in the 2002 World Cup, which resulted in an 8-0 win for Germany.

There’s no value in betting Germany to win this match obviously, and you’re an even bigger fool to lay such a price given its past two results. Instead, you should be looking at the spread with Saudi Arabia. Neither team has really much to improve with the tournament around the corner, and it’s actually Saudi Arabia who will probably give a more honest effort given that this is a confidence boosting match. If the Green Falcons can make this a match and maybe lose by one or two goals, it would do wonders for their belief heading into the World Cup.

Give me my free three goals.
