We have some MLS action from Toyota Park on Saturday as the Chicago Fire play host to the New England Revolution.

The Chicago Fire will be looking to find some measure of consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games, but did take a step in the right direction with a 2-1 win over San Jose in their last outing. Alan Gordon gave the Fire the lead 29 minutes in, and Aleksandar Katai doubled that advantage 4 minutes after halftime to give Chicago a 2-0 lead. San Jose cut the deficit in half in the 74th minute, but it was too little too late for San Jose. Gordon and Katai are tied for 2nd with 4 goals each, two behind Nemanja Nikolic’s team-high 6 markers this season. Bastian Schweinsteiger leads Chicago with 4 assists, while Katai leads the Fire with 46 shots, 30 off the mark and 16 on target this season.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Revolution will look to keep their current unbeaten run going after a 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls in their last outing pushed that streak to three games. Bradley Wright-Phillips gave New York the lead 8 minutes in, but Diego Fagundez equalized for New England right before halftime and Teal Bunbury gave the Revs the lead for good in the 78th minute. Bunbury’s tally gave him his team-leading 8th goal this season, while Cristian Penilla leads the Revolution in assists with 5 helpers this season. Bunbury leads New England as well with 45 total shots this season, 26 off target and 19 on the mark this season.

Head-to-head, the Fire have dominated recent meetings, winning the last four matchups against New England with the Revolution’s last win against Chicago coming in July 2016. Four of the last five meetings between these two teams have seen both teams on the score sheet as well.

The Fire have done very well in recent history with New England, there’s no denying that. However, I’m a bit concerned with Chicago’s inconsistency as of late. New England haven’t fared a whole lot better, but they did get a very good win against New York last time out, and have had a more positive string of results lately, so I’ll take a stab at the away win in this one.
