Paraguay and Japan meet Tuesday in International Friendly soccer action at Tivoli Neu.

Paraguay could use any sort of positivity from this match, as this club has lost seven of its last nine matches and is coming off a 0-1 loss to the United States. Paraguay has serious issues on the offensive end, as this team has been shutout in five of its last nine matches and hasn’t scored a goal since its October meeting against Colombia. Richard Ortiz is the current leading scorer on this roster with five goals in 30 caps, while the young Derlis González has four goals in 29 caps. Putting together a solid performance against a World Cup squad, even if it results in another loss, should do wonders for the confidence of this Paraguay club. Right now, the White and red aren’t looking so hot.

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

Japan plays its last friendly match before starting its World Cup run that begins with a match against Colombia. Japan has lost each of its last three matches and has been shutout in its last two. Despite holding tough in past World Cups, there’s not much optimism with this current club, as the form is poor, there was a late coaching change and it seems like the fans have kind of turned on this current group. These are things you don’t want to see with the big tournament just a week away, and this team needs to find a spark sooner of later if this trip is going to be a success. Japan has a ton of experienced players and proven goal scorers in Shinji Okazaki, Keisuke Honda and Shinji Kagawa. This is a big match for the Samurai Blue.

Japan won the most recent meeting against Paraguay, 1-0, which was a 2010 friendly match. The other three meetings between these clubs were 0-0 draws, including when they met in the 2010 World Cup. So, in four meetings between Paraguay and Japan, there’s been one combined goal.

Neither of these clubs are in great form and the confidence has to be shaken on both sides. However, Japan still has something to play for and needs to show up in a big way if the World Cup is going to be successful. Many are predicting a disaster for the Japanese given all the outside noise and the fact that it’s trickled down to the field. This is a chance for Japan to kind of get things back on track.

Give me Japan for the victory.
