We have some midweek MLS action from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday night as the Colorado Rapids play host to the Chicago Fire.

The Colorado Rapids will be out to snap a horrendous eight game losing streak in league play after a 2-0 loss to Houston Dynamo in their last outing. Tomas Martinez gave the Dynamo a lead 30 minutes in, before Mauro Manotas doubled the advantage just 6 minutes later and that’s all that Houston would need to send Colorado to their 8th straight defeat. Colorado was flat out dominated in the loss, holding just 24% possession at the final whistle, with Houston outshooting Colorado 20-2, including 8 shots on target to Colorado’s 1. Dominique Badji leads the Rapids with 5 goals this season, but will miss this match due to an accumulation of yellow cards, while Johan Blomberg leads Colorado with 3 assists on the year.

The Chicago Fire will look to build one back-to-back positive outings, including a 1-1 draw against New England Revolution in their last outing. Bastian Schweinsteiger gave Chicago the lead in the 63rd minute, before New England equalized 8 minutes before full time with a goal from Teal Bunbury, leading to the full time stalemate. Possession was almost even, with Chicago holding onto 51% possession, however the Revs outshot the fire 18-11, including 6-2 in terms of shots on target. Nemanja Nikolic leads the Fire with 6 goals this season, but is doubtful for this match with a possible concussion. Bastian Schweinsteiger leads the Fire with 4 assists this season.

There aren’t a lot of trends to go on here, but the home team has won the last two meetings between these two teams.

The home team may have won back-to-back meetings between these two teams, but there is no way that I’m passing up this kind of plus money to fade a team that’s lost 8 straight games. If this is a trap line and it comes back to blow up right in my face so be it. Chicago is getting no respect with a line like this, even if they are missing their top scorer, they have plenty of weapons to back it up, which isn’t necessarily true for Colorado. If you feel safer taking the double chance you could, but I’ll be siding with Chicago for the outright victory.
