Toronto FC and D.C. United meet Wednesday in MLS soccer action at BMO Field.

Toronto FC has earned points in three of its last four matches and is coming off a solid 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union. With an improved defense that’s allowed one or less goals in three of its last four matches, we’re seeing a Toronto club that’s quietly making progress in the Eastern Conference and could be a playoff threat as we head down the homestretch of the season. However, Toronto FC has to do a better job of taking advantage of home matches, as its outscoring teams by just 0.3 goals and has been held to one or less goals in three of its seven tries. Still, three of Toronto’s four wins this season have come at the BMO Field, so it is where it produces its best results. Jonathan Osorio leads Toronto with four goals, Sebastian Giovinco has six assists and Ager Aketxe has 25 shots.

D.C. United vs. Toronto FC - 6/13/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

D.C. United is still sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just nine points, but it  has produced a positive result in two of its last three MLS matches. D.C. United has had issues scoring all season long, as its been held to one or less goals in seven of its 11 matches, but it has found the back of the net in each of its last four matches and just took the Seattle Sounders to the brink before allowing a late goal to Magnus Wolff Eikrem. D.C. United is showing some recent signs of life despite being in such a massive hole and likely no chance to completely rebound. Maybe finally getting the deal done with Wayne Rooney would be the move that changes this franchise in the near future. Darren Mattocks leads D.C. United with six goals, Luciano Acosta has five assists and Yamil Asad has 15 shots.

Toronto FC has owned D.C. United over the years, positing a 3-1-1 record in the last five meetings. The last meeting back in August was a 1-1 draw, and DC United’s only win during that span was in October of 2016. Each of the last four meetings between these clubs have posted at least two goals.

Toronto FC is playing its best soccer as of late and has had its best results this season at home. Toronto also knows it needs to beat up on the lesser teams if it’s going to get back i the playoff conversation. D.C. United has shown some flashes of life recently, but this is still a limited team that doesn’t have playmakers to make a difference, especially on the road. Toronto FC should be able to build on its recent momentum and ride the home crowd to victory.

Toronto FC wins this match.
