We have some midweek MLS action from Red Bull Arena as the New York Red Bull host Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday night.

New York Red Bull will look to break out of a funk in league play where they’ve gone winless in their last three games, including a 1-1 draw with Columbus Crew on the weekend. New York fell behind 1-0 in the 26th minute but equalized 12 minutes into the 2nd half with a goal from Alex Muyl. New York conceded 53% possession to the Crew, while being outshot 18-11 in addition to 6-4 in regards to shots on target. Bradley Wright-Phillips was held off the score sheet but still leads New York in scoring with 9 goals in addition to 4 assists, while Alejandro Romero Gamarra leads the Red Bulls with 5 assists this year.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Sounders will look to build some steam after snapping their unsightly winless drought after a 2-1 win over DC United in their last outing. Darren Mattocks gave DC the lead 53 minutes in, before Seattle equalized just 4 minutes later thanks to Nicolas Lodeiro before Magnus Elkrem gave Seattle the lead 7 minutes before the final whistle. Seattle owned 58% of possession in the match, outshooting DC 15-13 with each side knocking 6 shots on target. Will Bruin leads Seattle with 3 goals and 2 assists this season.

An interesting trend to note, the home team has won the last four meetings between these two teams, with the away side not notching a win since 2010. Furthermore, six of the last eight head-to-head meetings have seen both teams on the scoresheet.

New York has struggled with consistency over the last couple of weeks, but just because Seattle won one game doesn’t mean I’m ready to back them with confidence. The Red Bulls are the better team here, and given the head-to-head trends, I’ll side with the Red Bulls to get a win at home here.
