The Line: Uruguay -139 / Draw +307 / Egypt +406 See the Latest Odds

We have some group A action from the 2018 World Cup as Egypt takes on Uruguay from the Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg.

Egypt comes into the 2018 World Cup as the #45 ranked team in the world, qualifying for the tournament after finishing tops in group E of the African qualifying with a 4-1-1 record. Essam El Hadary is the team’s captain and will most likely be Egypt’s goalkeeper, with the 45 year old owning 158 caps for the national team. There is a heavy Premier League contingent on the Egyptian side, with seven different players in the current squad on English teams, most notably Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah, who netted 32 goals for Liverpool this season.

Egypt vs. Uruguay - 6/15/18 World Cup Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Uruguay comes into this one as the #14 ranked team in the world, looking to improve on their finish in Brazil 2014 when La Celeste was eliminated in the round of 16, just four years after an impressive 4th place finish in South Africa. There is a heavy European club contingent in the Uruguayan side, with all but 9 players playing for a club associated with UEFA. Most notably, team captain Diego Godin who plays his club football for Atletico Madrid, alongside Barcelona forward Luis Suarez and PSG powerhouse Edinson Cavani. Cavani and Suarez have combined for 93 goals in 199 combined career caps.

These two teams have not met since 2006, a friendly that Uruguay won 2-0.

As tempting as heavy plus money is with Egypt, I think with that side it’s Salah or bust. Uruguay is a deep squad that’s always in contention to be a dark horse in the World Cup, and this year is no different. All in all, to open the tournament, I think Uruguay has too much depth for the Egyptians to handle, so I’ll lay the juice with Uruguay in this one.
