Peru and Denmark meet Saturday in the 2018 World Cup at Mordovia Arena.

Peru enters this tournament as one of the hotter clubs in the world, as it hasn’t lost a match since November of 2016 against Brazil. Peru has shutout six of its last seven opponents, and that includes a recent draw against Sweden in which it allowed just one shot on goal. Peru has established itself as a club that plays together, trusts the guy next to them and hasn’t allowed more than one goal in each of its last 14 matches. That defensive effort and consistency makes the White and Red a dangerous opponent for any team in the field. However, we must remember that Peru hasn’t made the World Cup since 1982, and this is even the first appearance for coach Ricardo Gareca. This club plays together, gives up nothing easy defensively and even has two experienced goal scorers in Paolo Guerrero and Jefferson Farfán, but nothing substitutes experience and how to manage the nerves of being on the big stage. Playing in a group with France and even an Australia club in the dance for a fourth straight try, experience could be this clubs downfall.

Denmark vs. Peru - 6/16/18 World Cup Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Denmark is another club riding a wave of momentum, as its shutout each of its last four opponents, which includes a recent 2-0 victory over Mexico. Denmark is another team that plays together, plays physical and has a handful of tall guys who are tough to match up against on the defensive end. Denmark makes teams work on the offensive end and can wear them down by the second half if they’re not used to the physical, powerful style. There’s also some clear star power for the Danish Dynamite, as Christian Eriksen is one of the best playmakers in the world and showed just how he can takeover a game when he lit Ireland up for three goals. Pione Sisto is another player who has come along recently and can have his true breakthrough moment in this tournament at 23 years old. If Denmark can play at its pace and shut things down defensively, and get production from its best player, this club will make it out of the group stages for the first time since 2002.

There’s no previous meetings between these two sides.

This match is huge for these two clubs in terms of advancing, as you figure its a battle between these two teams to get that second spot with France. Factor that in with the fact both these teams butter its bread on defense and is used to producing clean sheets, I highly doubt we’re going to see much offense. Under two goals isn’t leaving much room for error, but we could truly see a 0-0 draw or just one ball find the back of the net.

Give me the under in a match that should be a defensive slugfest.
