Senegal and Poland meet Tuesday in World Cup soccer action at Otkrytie Arena.

Senegal is in the World Cup for the first time since 2002 when it reached the quarterfinals and finished seventh in the tournament. Senegal is somewhat of a balanced team that has some decent strikers and a solid defense that’s led by Idrissa Gueye. The difference for this club being a legit threat to make it out of the group will be the play of Sadio Mane, who is obviously proven on the big stage and has shown flashes of being able to takeover matches. Mane must put his fingerprints on these matches if this is going to be a successful tournament for the Lions of Teranga. Senegal is not a proven offensive club despite some of the top talent on this club, so it needs its stars to be stars, and Mane is the one guy capable of willing his team to victory if he so chooses.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Poland is in the World Cup for the first time since 2006 and hasn’t made it out of the group stages since 1986. Poland certainly has the pieces in place to end such a drought and put fear in some of the top teams in the tournament. At almost 30 years old, Robert Lewandowski may be the best player this country has ever seen, and he has to be eager to finally get that major accomplishment on his resume. He’s been a beast for Bayern Munich the last few years and has probably been even better for his international team. There’s also a lot of experience and leadership on this team such as Kamil Glik, Grzegorz Krychowiak and Jakub Blaszczykowski, guys who know their position and will have their team in the best spot to succeed. Poland could certainly be a dark horse contender in this World Cup.

There’s no previous meetings between these two sides.

This match could go either way, as both sides are very talented and eager to make some noise after World Cup droughts for both. This is a flip coin match for me and one that I’ll probably stay away from betting wise. But, if forced to pick, I’d side with Poland. The White and Reds have great balance and will have the best player on the field in Lewandowski, who can will his club to a victory in a key match like this.

I lean Poland.
