Australia and Denmark meet Thursday in World Cup soccer action at Samara Arena.
Australia is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to France thanks to an own goal from Aziz Behich. Australia played with France for majority of the match, owning 49 percent of the possession and tying the match up late with a penalty shot from Mile Jedinak. The Socceroos were limited offensively for the most part, but they were the more physical team in the match and held their own defensively enough to deserve at least a point. The fact Australia played that hard and wasn’t rewarded with anything has to be a killer for this teams confidence moving forward. Australia is now on the losing side in each of its last four World Cup matches. Australia is also in danger of being bounced in the group stages of the World Cup for the third straight time.

Denmark was able to hold onto a 1-0 win over Peru, the clubs second World Cup victory since 2006. Denmark gave up six shots on goal compared to just three of its own and had the ball four percent less than its opponent, but a goal from Yussuf Yurary Poulsen was ultimately what decided the match and gave the Danish Dynamite three points. Denmark proved that its physical play can be the difference in a match, and Kasper Schmeichel was rather impressive in he opening match victory. It’s not always pretty with Denmark, but it has won five of its last10 matches. Denmark has a chance to make it out of the group stages of the World Cup for the first time since 2002.
There’s no previous meetings between these two sides.
We have an offensively challenged Australia team against a physical, defensive team in Denmark that’s sitting on three points already. This feels like a match in which the Danish Dynamite may park the bus a bit and either force a low scoring draw or sit on an early 1-0 lead and ride its way into the knockout stages. There’s likely not going to be a ton of offense in this matchup.
Give me the under.
