Serbia and Switzerland meet Friday in World Cup soccer action at Kaliningrad Stadium.
Serbia hopes to make another statement after already beating Costa Rica 1-0 on a free kick from Aleksandar Kolarov. In the victory, both teams split the possession at 50 percent and both got three shots on goal. The Eagles, however, got slightly better looks at the back of the net and goalie Vladimir Stojkovic was a tad bit sharper than the Ticos defense. Serbia has now won five of its last eight matches and has held opponents to one or less goals in eight of its last 11 matches. While this club is sitting pretty at the moment, we’ll see how this side handles the nerves of this match and the increased pressure now that some give them a real shot of advancing. Serbia has a chance to make it out of the group stages of the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Switzerland forced a 1-1 draw against Brazil, which honestly felt like a victory when you consider the Brazilians were a top-two favorite to win this tournament. Steven Zuber was able to find the back of the net for the A-Team and they were able to survive 20 shot attempts from the Brazilians, with four of those being on goal. Switzerland was physical in its effort, fouling 19 times and really limiting the quality of shots Brazil is used to seeing. The Swiss were gritty and made sure Neymar wasn’t going to beat them, as he picked himself off the field countless times and was clearly frustrated. It will be interesting to see if this is the game plan moving forward Vladimir Petkovic’s club. Switzerland hopes to improve its chances of making it to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the third time since 2006.
There’s no previous meetings between these two sides.
This is a big match for both clubs who already have points and have a great chance of advancing if they can get a positive result here. We tend to see defense takeover these type of games, as guys play scared to lose and just don’t want to give up anything stupid. Six of Serbia’s last eight matches have produced two or less goals. Seven of Switzerland’s last eight matches have produced two or less goals.
I’m going to take the under in this match.
