We have some Group F World Cup action on Saturday as South Korea takes on Mexico from the Rostov Arena.

South Korea comes into this match looking to avoid almost certain elimination after losing their opening match against Sweden by a final score of 1-0 on Monday. The match was a scoreless stalemate at the half and stayed at 0-0 until the 65th minute when South Korea conceded a penalty that Andreas Granqvist, who ironically plays his club football as Krasnodar in the host Russia, converted from the spot to give Sweden the goal that would eventually be the game-decider. Possession was nearly even, with Sweden holding 53% possession to South Korea’s 47%, but the South Koreans were also outshot 15-5 and 5-0 in terms of shots on target.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Mexico will look to punch their ticket to the round of 16 after arguably one of the biggest wins in the national team’s history with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Germany in their opening match on Sunday. Hirving Lozano took a through ball from Chicharito and slotted it to the near post in the 35th minute for the all important goal that would end up being the lone scoring in the match. The effect was felt so much so, that reported artificial earthquakes were registered back in Mexico. It was all about quality and not quantity for Mexico, as Germany dominated the statistics, owning 61% possession to Mexico’s 39%, outshooting Mexico 25-12 and 9-4 in terms of shots on target.

These two teams have only met once this decade, with the result ending in a 4-0 Mexico victory in a friendly back in 2014.

South Korea will have to be the more aggressive of the two teams here as another defeat will most likely end their tournament. However, Mexico’s victory over Germany did wonders for their confidence and will most likely propel them to a solid showing against South Korea. We are actually getting a pretty decent price with Mexico, so I’ll back El Tri to bag a second victory here. Furthermore, given South Korea’s struggles to find the back of the net, being held scoreless for three consecutive matches, I would also recommend going with BTTS - NO if you’re not comfortable picking a side in this important matchup.
