We have some MLS action from Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday as Real Salt Lake host the San Jose Earthquakes.
Real Salt Lake comes into this one looking to rebound after having their three game winning streak snapped with a 3-0 loss on the road at LA Galaxy in their last outing. RSL actually held the Galaxy down for the first hour of the match, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck for the home side in the 61st and 67th minutes before Ola Kamara added a 3rd goal in the 76th minute to essentially lock up all three points for the Galaxy. Real Salt Lake out possessed the Galaxy 55%-45%, outshooting LA 13-10 but were outshot 6-3 in regards to shots on goal. Corey Baird leads RSL in scoring with 4 goals this season, while Albert Rusnak is RSL’s leading assist man with 3 assists this season.

The San Jose Earthquakes on the other hand will be looking to turn things around after going winless in their last 6 matches, but took a step in the right direction with a 2-2 draw against New England last time out. Danny Hoesen gave the Quakes the lead 17 minute in, but New England responded in the 31st minute and again in the 43rd to seat San Jose 2-1 behind at halftime. Hoesen equalized for the Quakes in the 51st minute in what would end up being the final scoreline. San Jose were almost even with the Revs statistically, being slightly out possessed 53%-47%, also being outshot 18-17 and 7-5 in terms of shots on target. Hoesen leads the Quakes with 9 goals this season after the last match, while five different San Jose players are tied with 3 assists apiece.
The home team has had the bulk of the success between these two teams, winning four and drawing two in the last six meetings, including wins in the last three head-to-head matchups.
I personally think this is one of the easier games to pick on Saturday’s lineup. The Earthquakes are struggling right now, and while RSL got beat down by Salt Lake on the final score line, Salt Lake held their own for an hour of that match before things fell apart. Plus, Real Salt Lake has been in much better form overall, so I’ll back Real Salt Lake to pick up three points here.
