We have some MLS action on Saturday from CenturyLink Field as the Seattle Sounders host the Portland Timbers.

The Seattle Sounders will be looking to find a victory after going winless in five of their last six matches following a 1-1 draw with Chicago in their most recent outing. Alexander Katai gave Chicago the lead just nine minutes into the match before Clint Dempsey converted a Will Bruin assist for his first league goal of the season. Both sides came close down the stretch but ultimately no one else would find the back of the net as the two sides shared the spoils. Seattle out possessed Chicago 54%-46%, with 18 shots to 15 for Chicago with each side logging 7 shots on goal. Bruin remains the Sounders’ leader with 3 goals and 4 assists this season.

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers - 6/30/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Adam Hagy-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going which currently sits at 9 games thanks to a 1-1 draw with Atlanta United in their last outing. Larrys Mabiala gave Portland the lead 32 minutes in and it looked to be a road win for Portland before Atlanta equalized thanks to Julian Gressel’s strike in the 56th minute which helped result in the stalemate at full time. Portland sat back and defended for much of the second half, which is why the Timbers held onto just 31% possession in the match. Atlanta outshot Portland 20-12 and 9-4 in regards to shots on goal. Diego Valeri leads the Timbers with 6 goals this season while Sebastian Blanco leads with 3 assists on the year.

An interesting head-to-head trend to note, the home team has not lost in this matchup in the last ten matchups, putting up eight wins and two draws over that stretch. It’s also worth noting that seven of the last nine league meetings have seen both teams on the scoresheet.

We all know that Seattle has a better team than what their record would indicate, and the home team has had a large amount of success over the last few years. However, I’m not sure how anyone could go against Portland here. The Timbers are in a much better run of form and while they folded up and sat back while Atlanta attacked in their last match, the fact is that Portland still got a result. My top play here would be to go with Portland and a draw on the double chance as the three straight draws for Portland scared me away from the outright victory leaning towards covering my bases with the double chance. It may also be worth betting on both teams to score as well.
