Uruguay and France meet Friday in World Cup soccer action at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

Uruguay continues to dominate whoever it plays, as this team hasn’t lost a match since November against Austria. Uruguay did allow a goal in its victory over Portugal, but that’s now just one goal allowed in its last seven matches. The Sky Blues may not always be the sexiest team in the world to watch, but they play together, get after it defensively and have just enough offensive punch to pull out the victory. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have done most of the offensive heavy lifting this tournament and Uruguay usually capitalizes whenever it gets shots on goal. While other teams loaded with more star players may get more national attention, Uruguay is a club that can’t be overlooked, as the recent results speak for themselves. Uruguay hopes to make the semifinals of the World Cup for the second time in its last three appearances.

Uruguay vs. France - 7/6/18 World Cup Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

France is coming off an impressive 4-3 victory over Argentina and is in the World Cup quarterfinals for the fourth time since 1998. France has now earned a positive result in each of its last eight matches and just showed that this side is much more than defense. After holding each of its previous opponents to one or less goals, France managed to turn up the offensive pressure when needed and saw two quick goals from Mbappe. France has now proven it can win whichever style needed to advance, and this sort of balance should give the Blues even more confidence entering this match. France hasn’t lost in 31 of its last 33 matches when scoring at least one goal. France hope to make the semifinals of the World Cup for the third time in its last six appearances.

The last time these teams met was in a 2013 friendly, a match Uruguay won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Luis Alberto Suarez Diaz. The 2012 friendly between Uruguay and France was a 0-0 draw and the meeting in the 2010 World Cup was also a 0-0 draw. So, there’s been one combined goal in the last three matches between Uruguay and France.

It’s hard not to take a shot with Uruguay to make nearly four times your money, as this side is being heavily underrated given its recent play and how sound it is defensively. But France is the better and more balanced team overall, so I get it. Instead of picking a side, I’m going with the under here. The deeper you get in the tournament, it usually favors the defense, as teams play far more cautious. These have also been two consistent defensive teams that don’t give many quality looks.

It’s going to be tight with the winner likely winning 1-0. Give me the under.
