We have some midweek MLS action from Toyota Park on Wednesday as Chicago Fire takes on the Philadelphia Union.

The Chicago Fire come into this match looking to bounce back after having their five game unbeaten run ended with a 3-2 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps in their last outing. Kei Kamara gave the Whitecaps the lead 28 minutes in, while Nemanja Nikolic equalized for Chicago just 3 minutes before half time. Vancouver went 3-1 up by the 71st minute, and while Tony Tchani pulled a goal back for the Fire in the 81st, it was too little too late as Vancouver took all three points. Chicago out possessed Vancouver 65%-35%, and outshot Vancouver 16-14 but were outshot 7-4 in regards to shots on target. Nikolic’s goal tied him for the team lead with Aleksandar Katai with 8 goals apiece this season, while Bastian Schweinsteiger leads the Fire in assists with 4 this season.

Chicago Fire vs. Philadelphia Union - 7/11/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Union will look to rebound from back-to-back losses, including a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Atlanta United in their last outing. The match was a scoreless draw at the half, before the Union conceded a penalty in the 58th minute which Josef Martinez converted for Atlanta. Atlanta doubled their lead 18 minutes later, leaving Philly with no points at the final whistle. The Union owned the possession battle, 53%-47%, while outshooting Atlanta 18-16, however it was Atlanta United that had the better quality chances, hitting 8 shots on target to Philadelphia’s 3. Borek Dockal leads Philly with 5 goals and shared the team lead in assists with Alejandro Bedoya, with each having 3 helpers this season.

The home side has dominated this fixture, winning each of the last six head-to-head meetings, and not losing since 2013, a span of 11 matches. It’s also worth noting that each of the last five meetings have seen at least three goals, and five of the last seven have seen both teams on the scoresheet.

As nice of a price as we may be getting on Philadelphia, the fact is that the home side has dominated this matchup over the last few years, and that doesn’t bode well for the Union considering they have the worst away form in the East, securing just 4 of a possible 24 points so far away from home this season, scoring just 4 and conceding 16 goals. All in all, I think the Fire should win this one easily, so I’ll side with the home win while braver punters may want to chase the final score line of 2-0.
