The Line: NYCFC -247 / Draw +397 / Montreal +687 -- Over/Under: 3.5 See the Latest Odds

TV: TVAS, TSN 1/4/5, ESPN+, YES

We have some midweek MLS action from Yankee Stadium as New York City FC plays host to the Montreal Impact on Wednesday.

New York City FC will look to string together some positive results after alternating wins with losses or draws in their last eight outings following a 1-0 win over rival New York Red Bull last time out. The match was fairly quiet throughout, with a scoreless draw at half time and the first card of the match coming in the 67th minute. We looked destined to finish with a 0-0 score line before Max Morales gave the Blues the lead with 5 minutes to go. NYCFC out possessed the Red Bulls 54%-46% with each side logging 14 shots, 4 of which hit the target. Moralez’s goal gave him 7 on the year, one behind team leader David Villa who has 8 this season. Moralez does lead NYCFC with 5 assists this season.

New York City FC vs. Montreal Impact - 7/11/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Impact will look to keep their positive string of results going, winning their fourth straight match by a final score of 2-1 last time out. The match was a 0-0 draw at the half time break, before Saphir Taider made a brief but sudden impact, scoring both of Montreal’s goals one minute apart scoring in the 55th and 56th minutes. Dominique Badge pulled a goal back for Colorado but it was too little too late for the Rapids. Montreal owned Colorado statistically, owning 68% possession while outshooting Colorado 21-2 with 7 shots on target to Colorado’s 2. Ignacio Piatti leads the Impact with 9 goals and 6 assists this season.

New York City has had the bulk of the success when these two teams lock up. In the 7 all time league meetings between the two since NYCFC joined MLS in 2015, New York City has won four times and drawn twice with Montreal winning just once in August 2015. Also worth noting, six of those seven meetings have seen both teams get on the score sheet.

There’s no denying that the head-to-head trends favor NYCFC and New York City’s unbeaten record at home is a daunting thing to look at, especially when Montreal have won just twice away from home this season. However, one of those wins came during this nice little winning streak that the Impact have been on, and I feel we would be remiss if we didn’t give Montreal credit for this run of form. Sure, the Impact beat Colorado who haven’t been much competition this season, but the Impact did beat Sporting KC who are tops in the west and I think the Impact can hang with NYCFC here, which is why I’m going to suggest siding with the Impact and a draw on the double chance.
