We have some MLS action on Saturday afternoon from CenturyLink Field as the Seattle Sounders host the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Seattle Sounders will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going which currently sits at three games following back-to-back draws, including a 1-1 draw with Atlanta United last time out. Nicolas Lodeiro gave the Sounders the lead just before half time from the penalty spot, but the lead evaporated just three minutes after the half with Josef Martinez equalizing for Atlanta. The Sounders dodged a major bullet after Jordan McCrary picked up a second yellow card to be sent off in the 63rd minute, leaving the Sounders with 10 men, but Seattle did enough, ultimately picking up a point at the full time whistle. Seattle were owned in the possession battle, with Atlanta owning 69% possession to Seattle’s 31%, and the Sounders were also outshot 19-8, and 6-3 in regards to shots on target. Will Bruin leads the Sounders with 5 goals and 4 assists this season.

Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps - 7/21/18 MLS Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The Vancouver Whitecaps will be looking for a rebound performance after dropping three of their last four league games, including a 3-1 loss to DC United in their last outing. DC United grabbed a lead in the 27th and it stayed that way until the 69th minute, when Paul Arriola would secure a brace in 11 minutes, also scoring in the 80th to give DC a commanding 3-0 lead. Alphonso Davies pulled a consolation goal back deep into second half stoppage time but it was too little too late as DC secured all three points. DC owned the possession battle 59%-41%, with the Whitecaps narrowly outshooting DC 15-14, but it was DC United who had the more quality looks, owning a 6-3 advantage in terms of shots on target. Kei Kamara leads the ‘Caps with 8 goals this season, while the aforementioned Davies leads the Whitecaps with 6 assists on the year.

Head-to-head, the home team has gone unbeaten in the last 5 meetings with 3 wins and 2 draws, with the most recent result being a 2-0 Sounders win in the playoffs last year.

Seattle pulling out a huge draw against the best team in the league is a positive sign that the team could be turning the corner. The Whitecaps are struggling to find their footing as well coming into this match, but I’m still confident the Whitecaps can get something from this match. Seattle, despite their positive results, haven’t been able to get over the hump and get all three points other than a win over fellow cellar dwellers in Colorado. I think Seattle remains unbeaten but Vancouver gets a point out of this one so I’m going to side with the draw as my prediction for this match.
