Perth Glory and Chelsea meet Monday in a friendly preseason soccer match at Optus Stadium.

Perth Glory enters this match with some pretty solid momentum, as its won five of its last eight matches and is coming off a 6-0 blowout victory over Gwelup Croatia. With four goals scored in the second half of its most recent match, Perth Glory has found its groove offensively, finding the back of the net at least twice in each of its last four matches. Of course, the competition hasn’t been the greatest for The Glory, but this club will take anything it can get after going just 10-2-15 last season in the A-League. A positive showing against a Premier League club would certainly add to the confidence of Perth Glory and would be huge as this side prepares for the upcoming season. This is the perfect measuring stick game for Perth Glory in terms of finding out exactly where its at in terms of competing against some of the better clubs in the world, and you can expect a packed stadium given who this match is against.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Chelsea will play its first match since winning the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United back in May. Chelsea will play just two preseason matches before beginning the Intentional Champions Cup with a match against Internazionale. Chelsea has produced a positive result in eight of its last nine matches and has been really solid defensively, allowing one or less goals in six of its last seven matches. Chelsea has won four of its last five road matches, but it was waxed in its last road match, which was a 0-3 loss to Newcastle, its only poor result in its last nine meetings. When Chelsea is playing to its potential, its one of the better teams in the world, as its led by 10 players with double-digit goals on its first squad and a pressure defense that limits quality shots. Of course, the one concern with Chelsea is seeing how this team responds to new coach Maurizio Sarri, and there’s not much time before the big tournament to see how things play out.

There’s no recent match history between these two clubs. This is Chelsea’s first visit to Perth since 1974.

Chelsea can’t exactly afford to treat this like an ordinary preseason match, as it has to get comfortable with its new coach in time for the Intentional Champions Cup. Take the match seriously and build chemistry in the short time available. Perth Glory has been an offensive machine lately, but the lack of competition doesn’t give us a great idea of where this team is. Also, there’s going to be value giving Perth Glory a chance maybe with the spread given that this stadium is going to be packed and rocking unlike previous matches. Perth Glory had an attendance of just 600 people in its last match, and this meeting is expected to have 65,000. Energy in a building can change how players perform.

With that said, Chelsea has seen everything under the sun and won’t be intimidated by the atmosphere. As long as Chelsea shows up to win, it will win against a much less talented side.
