A pair of European giants go head-to-head in International Champions’ Cup friendly soccer action as Juventus takes on Bayern Munich from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Juventus comes into this match looking to tune up for their Serie A title defense after finishing the 2017-18 campaign with 95 points, including 30 wins out of 38 matches along with 5 draws, finishing four points clear of runners-up Napoli. It will be the first season since 20001 where Gianluigi Buffon was not in goal for Le Zebre. Wojciech Szczesny, Mattia Perin and Carlo Pinsoglio will be expected to battle for starting goalie duties, while Giorgio Chiellini and Alex Sandro will anchor Juve’s back line. Juventus further bolstered a deadly attack with the likes of Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Mandzukic with the high profile 100-million euro transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Only time will tell if the massive move will pay off and this will be the first time that Ronaldo takes the pitch with his new squad should he play.

Bayern Munich on the other hand will be looking to defend their sixth straight Bundesliga title, winning the 2017-18 title in emphatic fashion, finishing with 84 points, 27 wins out of 34 matches and a full 21 points ahead of second place Schalke. The warm-up started with a 3-1 victory over Paris Saint Germain in their opening tournament match. Munich fell behind 1-0, but three goals in 18 minutes from Javi Martinez, Renato Sanchez and Joshua Zirkzee in the 60th, 68th and 78th minutes respectively, gave Bayern the victory at full time. Bayern owned a decisive 62% possession rate in the match, outshooting PSG 16-8 and 7-2 in terms of shots on target.
The last 10 meetings between these two teams have all come in the UEFA Champions League, with Bayern winning four matches to Juve’s three with three draws sandwiched in there, with the last two meetings ending in 2-2 draws.
This should be a highly entertaining affair with action at both ends. I wouldn’t be surprised to see either side come out on top, but I’m going to side with the draw as I see the talent on both sides cancelling each other out at full time. Braver punters may want to try chasing a third consecutive 2-2 score line in this fixture.
