AC Milan and Manchester United meet Wednesday in the soccer International Champions Cup at the StubHub Center.
AC Milan enters this tournament producing a positive result in five of their last six matches, which includes a 2-0 win over Novara in its most recent outing. In the victory, Suso and Davide Calabria both found the back of the net, as they flashed some of the talented youth on this roster. AC Milan has now scored seven goals in its last two matches and has scored at least once in seven of its last 10 matches overall. Of course, the competition is going to be a lot steeper in this match than previous friendly matches for AC Milan, but this is a club playing decent soccer and has been better recently on the defensive side as well. Preseason or not, we’re going to learn a lot from the Red and Blacks as a team in this match.

Manchester United is coming off a 0-0 draw to the San Jose Earthquakes, a match in which the Red Devils produced just one shot on goal. Sure, it’s preseason, but that’s a poor result for Manchester United when you consider the Earthquakes are one of the worst teams in the MLS and don’t have nearly the same talent even with the teams backups playing. Maybe that’s a sing that Manchester United really isn’t interested at all in preseason, or maybe the subpar result will motivate the team to perform better in this upcoming match. Either way, Manchester United has now been shutout in three of its last five matches and its last six matches have produced two or less goals. Manchester United could use a shot in the arm before league play begins.
The last six meetings between these teams have been split down the middle at three apiece. Manchester United won the last meeting, which was in the 2010 Champions League playoffs, 4-0. Each of the last four meetings between these teams have produced at least three goals.
It’s tough to back Manchester United given the way its played, not only in its last match, but overall recently. The offensive firepower hasn’t been there and not doing much against San Jose is a major red flag, preseason or not. With that said, the Red Devils are still the better team here no matter how you slice it, so I’ll give them another chance.
