AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur meet Wednesday in the soccer International Champions Cup at Qualcomm Stadium.
AS Roma enters this tournament with some serious momentum, as its produced positive results in nine of its last 10 matches and is coming off a 1-1 draw against Avellino. AS Roma has lost just once in its last 10 tries, which was against Liverpool in a 2-5 blowout loss in the Champions League playoffs. Of course, AS Roma later got revenge on Liverpool and has scored four or more goals in three of its last seven matches. While you can question the competition and just how motivated teams are this time of year, you certainly can’t question the form of the yellow and reds. AS Roma is playing at a high level right now and shouldn’t be looking to take its foot off the gas with some quality teams on deck over the next few days.

Tottenham Hotspur has been quite the offensive side recently, producing a combined eight goals in two matches against Southend United and Brentford, and that obviously doesn’t include the five goals scored against Leicester. Tottenham Hotspur has found the back of the net at least once in 11 of its last 12 matches and has proven to be a tough out when it keeps that offensive pressure on its opponent. Tottenham Hotspur certainly isn’t letting up on last years success and should hope to really flex its muscle in this tournament against three quality teams. The Spurs have put themselves in elite company the last few years and have to keep that competitive edge, preseason or not, if they hope to take that next step and end up winning a league title.
The only meeting between these clubs was in last years International Champions Cup, a match AS Roma won 3-2.
AS Roma is probably in slightly better form and should have a little more motivation in these type of events, but you can make a strong case for either side here. Tottenham Hotspur has been a scoring machine as of late, and that includes some of its young players who have been getting playing time in these exhibitions.
Based on the value of the price, it’s tough not to back the Spurs in a victory here.
