Benfica and Juventus meet Saturday in the soccer International Champions Cup at the Red Bull Arena.

Benfica are coming off a draw against Dortmund in which they won on penalty kicks. In the result, Benfica controlled the ball for 48 percent of the match and got three shot attempts on goal. Despite being down 0-2 early in the match, André Almeida and Alfa Semedo found the back of the net to later force penalties where they later pulled out the victory. Benfica has now produced a positive result in six straight matches and has scored two or more goals in four of their last eight matches. It was an overall positive performance and one that should make Benfica feel good, as it proved that this club is never out of things. That’s needed when playing increased competition in this upcoming match.

Juventus is coming off a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich, which was rather impressive considering they controlled the ball for just 31 percent of the match and gave up six shots on goal. Andrea Favilli ended up scoring both goals for Juventus to pull out the victory, and showed even its young players don’t exactly need much to put away a match. Juventus has now scored two or more goals in five of their last six matches and has now produced a positive result when scoring at least once in 31 straight matches. Juventus has to like where its at right now, especially when you factor in this club is playing a lot of young players in these matches and still putting away teams.

These teams haven’t played since the 2014 UEFA Europa League, which was a 0-0 draw. In fact, two of the last three meetings between these clubs haven’t produced a goal.

Both teams are playing well at the moment, but Juventus is just another level at the moment, as this club is scoring at will, everybody is involved and the team produces a positive result every time it scores. I need to see more from Benfica against better competition before buying into the hype.

Juventus wins.
