We have some MLS action on Saturday from Providence Park as the Portland Timbers host the Houston Dynamo.

The Portland Timbers will look to continue their impressive unbeaten run, which currently stands at 13 games and 15 of their last 16 matches following a 2-2 draw with Montreal in their last outing. Portland fell behind in the 23rd minute before an equalizer from Samuel Armenteros in the 39th. That tie would last just 2 minutes however as Montreal scored again to make it 2-1. Diego Valeri tied the game for Portland again in the 65th, resulting in the score draw. Portland owned 56% possession to Montreal’s 44%, and outshot the Impact 18-11 and 8-2 in regards to shots on goal. Armenteros and Valeri are tied for the Timbers’ lead in scoring with 7 goals this season while Valeri leads Portland with 7 assists this season.

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Dynamo will be looking to rebound after having their four game unbeaten run snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union in their last outing. Mauro Manotas gave the Dynamo the lead just 10 minutes in, before the Union equalized in the 34th minute. Houston had to play the last half hour plus with 10 men as Tomas Martinez was shown a straight red card in the 59th. Philadelphia would strike twice more in the 70th and from the penalty spot in the sixth minute of stoppage time to give the away side all three points. The Dynamo lost the possession battle, with 48% possession to Philly’s 52%, while outshooting the Union 15-12 with each side having 5 shots on target. Manotas leads the Dynamo with 11 goals this season while Romell Quioto leads the Dynamo in assists with 8 on the year.

Head-to-head, the Dynamo won the most recent meeting between the two sides in November last year, and it was only the 2nd all time win for the away side in 14 league meetings.

I must say I don’t see Portland’s unbeaten run ending here, as the Dynamo have won just once away from home in 9 tries this season. However, the Dynamo do have four draws on the road to their credit, and Portland has drawn three of their eight home games this season. Given that three of the last four meetings across all competitions have ended in a tie, I’m going to take a shot with the draw as my prediction for this match.
