AFC Bournemouth (LLWLW) and Chelsea (LWLDW) will meet on Saturday, February 29th for an English Premier League match at Vitality Stadium. The match is scheduled for a 10:00 AM ET start time.
Bournemouth is coming off a 3-0 loss on the road to Burnley in their last match on February, 22nd in English Premier League action. Bournemouth has now lost back-to-back matches, and have only two wins in their last five matches overall. In the loss to Burnley, three second-half goals were the result of the 3-0 domination by Burnley. Matej Vydra (53’), Jay Rodrigues (61’ PEN), and Dwight McNeil (87’) were the respective goal scorers. In the match, there was a controversial VAR call that flipped the momentum, as Bournemouth’s goal in the 22nd minute was wiped away in the review.
Chelsea is coming off a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich on February 25th in UEFA Champions League action in their last match. Chelsea has now won and lost two matches in their last five overall. In the loss to Bayern, Serge Gnabry (51’, 54’) and Robert Lewandowski (76’) were the goal scorers for Bayern. Chelsea only managed to have 37% of the possession and 3 shots on target. Chelsea added a red card from Marcos Alonso in the 83rd minute.
AFC Bournemouth won the most previous match between these two teams, 1-0, on December 14th, 2019. Bournemouth has won three of the last five matches between the two, with Chelsea winning the other two matches. Bournemouth is currently 16th in the English Premier League table, while Chelsea is 4th.
I like Chelsea to rebound in this match, as they took a second-half beat-down by Bayern just this week. Chelsea is obviously the much better team in this matchup, and I would not trust Bournemouth much considering the way they have played recently. Two outright losses where opponents are outscoring them 5-1 in the month of February does not make me want to take them in this spot, even at home. Chelsea should be able to forget their UEFA loss and focus in a road match win over Bournemouth in this one. Chelsea -0.5 is the play for me.
