Shakhtyor Soligorsk is welcoming Neman Grodno to Storitel Stadium in part of round 3 of Belarus Vysshaya League.
Shakhtyor is one of the better teams in Belarus and they are in 8th place in the standings after 2 played games. Shakhtyor has one win and one loss with 2 scored goals and 1 conceded goal in the first two rounds. In their last Vysshaya League match against Gorodeya on the road, Shakhtyor was a much better team with 55% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal and 5 corner kicks. Shakhtyor was in complete control of this match and has won 0-2. Giorgi Diasamidze and Dmitri Podstrelov have each scored 1 goal for Shakhtyor so far this season. Shakhtyor ended the last season in third place and they have qualified for the Europa League. Shakhtyor has scored massive 59 goals in 30 games last season, only two teams in Belarus’ top league were better. Defensively, Shakhtyor was great with only 21 conceded goals, the best defensive team in the league. This season hasn’t started well for Shakhtyor, they lost an opening match at home against Torpedo, but Shakhtyor has shown us with their second game that that loss was just a fluke. Shakhtyor is a solid team on both ends and I expect them to be in the run for the title this season.
Neman has been playing in solid for over the month of February and they lost only 2 of their last 11 games. In Vysshaya League, Neman is in 7th place in the standings with 3 points, 1 win and 1 loss. In their last match against Vitebsk, Neman had 53% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 7 corner kicks. This was a solid game on both ends for Neman and they won 2-0. Kadimyan and Kantaria have scored 1 goal each for Neman so far. Last season Neman ended up in 10th place with 36 points, only 28 scored goals in 30 games, and 37 conceded goals. Neman is an average team that unfortunately can’t do better than the middle of the standings, and once again I expect them to end the season somewhere between 7th and 12th spot. There are no notable injuries in Neman’s roster which is always a good thing. Most of the points that Neman will win, will most likely come from home games because Neman doesn’t have the quality to compete with most of the teams in the league on the road. I know that Neman has conceded a lot of goals last season, but I honestly think that their biggest issue was lack of offense, and I hope they were able to fix that for this season.
When playing at home, Shakhtyor hasn’t lost in their last 11 games against Neman, while Neman hasn’t won any of their last 6 away games overall. Shakhtyor is a much better team here who is playing at home, even though home field doesn’t mean much these days. I think Shakhtyor gets a nice win here.
