Dinamo Brest is welcoming Shakhtyor Soligorsk to Regional Sport Complex Brestskiy in the first leg of semifinals in the Belarus Cup.
Dinamo Brest has ended their nice 6-game streak without a loss last weekend against Slavia Mozyr where they lost 1-2, at home. In that match, Dinamo had 58% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, and 5 corner kicks. In the Vysshaya League, Dinamo is in 10th place with 4 points and a 3-3 goal differential. Dinamo Brest has 1 win, 1 loss, and 1 draw so far this season. In the Cup competition, Dinamo Brest has knocked out Isloch last month. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw, and so did the second leg which meant that the game would go to the overtime. The overtime also ended in a 0-0 and this match went to the penalty shootout. Dinamo Brest had more concentration in the shootout and has won this matchup 3-4 after the penalties and advanced to the semifinals. Dinamo Brest had a fantastic last season where they stopped Bate Borisov’s amazing run and has won the title with 75 points, 5 points more than Bate Borisov. Thanks to the title from last season, Dinamo will go into the Champions League qualifications for next season. This season hasn’t started well for Dinamo, but there is still enough time for them to get in a good form and defend their title from last season.
Shakhtyor has also been struggling with the form at the beginning of the new season. Shakhtyor is in 9th place with 4 points, 2 scored goals, and 1 conceded goal. In their last match in Vysshaya League last weekend against Neman at home, Shakhtyor had 51% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 4 corner kicks. Unfortunately for Shakhtyor, they weren’t able to capitalize, and this match ended in a 0-0 draw. In the Cup competition, Shakhtyor knocked out Torpedo with two nice victories, 0-1 on the road, and 2-0 at home. Shakhtyor ended last season in 3rd place with 65 points, therefore they are qualified for the Europa League next season. Shakhtyor was solid on both ends last season, especially on the defensive end where they were the best team in the league, but this season Shakhtyor is struggling with scoring goals and if they don’t fix that soon, I’m afraid Shakhtyor will fall behind and will lose every chance for attacking the top spot in Vysshaya League.
This is a matchup between two of some of the best teams in Belarus and for that reason I expect this to be an exciting matchup. Shakhtyor had a lot more success against Dinamo Brest in the past, both at home and on the road, but Dinamo Brest can surprise for sure, after all, Dinamo is the reigning Champion. This match is hard to predict, and I don’t think there will be a lot of goals scored here. I will go with my gut on this one.
