Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino is hosting Energetik-BGU Minsk at Torpedo Stadium in round 4 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
After the fantastic start of the season with 2 wins, one on the road and one at home, Torpedo has lost their latest match against Dinamo Minsk on the road. Torpedo was the weaker team in that match with 47% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, and 4 corner kicks. Torpedo didn’t stand a chance in this matchup and they lost 2-0. Torpedo has scored only 2 goals in 3 games, but they also conceded only 2 goals. Gorbachik, and de Penha have each scored 1 goal for Torpedo this season. With 6 points, Torpedo is in 7th place in the standings, which is where they will most likely be throughout the season. Torpedo got knocked out of the Belarus Cup against Shakhtyor last month and their schedule in Vysshaya League is tough in the next couple of games. Torpedo is facing Energetik this weekend, the only undefeated team in the league, and after that Torpedo is playing against arguably the best team in Belarus, Bate Borisov. Rough couple of weeks for Torpedo is ahead of them, and with a weak offense they have, I don’t see them scoring a lot of goals or winning points.
Energetik is displaying fantastic soccer at the beginning of the season and they have quickly become one of the favorites to win the title. With 9 points, 6 scored goals, and only 1 conceded goal, Energetik is at the top of the Vysshaya League. In their last Vysshaya League match against FC Minsk at home, Energetik had 51% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 5 corner kicks. Energetik had 1-0 lead at the half-time and was in control during the second half until they got a red card in the 70th minute. Since that moment Minsk has put a lot of pressure on Energetik’s defense and not only Energetik successfully defended, they were able to score another goal and win this game 2-0. Last season was a complete disaster last season with massive 63 conceded goals, but this season is a complete opposite for Energetik, at least for now. With Energetik barely escaping the relegation zone last season, I guess some kind of switch flipped in this team and they decided to change things. With a few changes and additions to the team, Energetik is now playing some of the best soccer in Vysshaya League on both ends, and if they can keep it up to get some more distance between themselves and the competitions, this could be an exciting season for Energetik.
Torpedo and Energetik have played only 3 times against each other so far with each team winning once, while one game ended in a draw. In all three of those games, there were at least 3 scored goals. With Energetik playing this well, I much side with them in this matchup.
