FC Minsk is hosting Bate Borisov at KFP Minsk in a round 4 match of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Minsk has had a solid start of the season with 2 nice wins, one on the road and one at home, but in their last game against Energetik, Minsk lost 2-0. Minsk had 49% of ball possession in that match, 1 shot on goal, and 10 corner kicks, but they weren’t able to put the ball in the net. Minsk is in third place in the standings with 6 points, 6 scored goals, and 5 conceded goals. Minsk’s offense is playing at high level so far in the season, but their defense hasn’t been solid. Minsk has a good season, even though it’s still early, but unfortunately for them, they have a good season only because the other teams are not playing well and it’s only a matter of time before FC Minsk starts dropping down in the standings. Don’t get me wrong, I think that Minsk has a solid team with enough quality to compete for the top three positions, but they are hardly the team that can be consistent. Khvashchinskiy has scored 2 goals for Minsk this season and is their top goal scorer. Minsk ended last season in 9th place, I expect them to be a little bit higher in the standings this season, but not by much.
Bate is still in a bad shape after their disastrous start of the season with 2 losses. In their last Vysshaya League match against Rukh at home last weekend, Bate was by far the better team with 52% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. Even though Bate had 3 canceled goals, they were able to get their first win of the season, 1-0. In the midweek, Bate was playing against Slavia Mozyr in the Belarus Cup on the road where they were big favorites, and the better team I might add, but those inconsistencies resurfaced and Bate has lost that match 1-0. Good thing that was the first leg which means Bate will get another chance at home in just over 2 weeks. Bate has scored only 3 goals in 3 games so far, while they conceded 5 goals. With only 3 points, Bate is in 13th place, but there is still plenty of time for Bate to get in good form and to catch up with Energetik at the top of the standings. Skavysh, Dragun, and Willumson have each scored one goal for Bate so far this season. Bate Borisov is the best club in Belarus, and it has been for years, but after 12 years of being the champions, they lost the title last season and I’m sure everyone in Bate is eager to get the title back.
Head to head, Bate has had much more success than FC Minsk. If I were to guide myself by the current form, I would have gone with FC Minsk, but I think that Bate Borisov is the better team here and it’s only a matter of time before they get out of this slump, and the win here would go a long way.
