Energetik-BGU Minsk is welcoming Gorodeya to Stadyen RTsOP-BGU in round 5 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Energetik has been undefeated for the first three games of the season, but unfortunately for them, that streak ended last weekend against Torpedo on the road. Energetik was the better team in that match with 53% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks, but Energetik wasn’t able to score a goal and they lost 2-0. Energetik is in second place in the standings with 9 points, 6 scored goals and 3 conceded goals. Overall, Energetik is one of the top teams in the Vysshaya League, at least for now. Yakhshiboev is the leading goal scorer for Energetik with 3 goals. After a disastrous last season for Energetik, this season is a dose of fresh air for them and even though the season has just started, everyone in Energetik is probably surprised by the way they are playing this season. There have been some changes in the roster which certainly impacted their game style and form, but for Energetik to be the contestant for the title is quite unexpected. As I’ve said earlier, the season has just started, and we are yet to see if Energetik can keep the consistency and how will they handle themselves after their first loss.
After two losses in the first two games of the season and without a scored goal, Gorodeya is now on a 2-game winning streak where they haven’t conceded a goal. Gorodeya is in 9th place with 6 points, but unless they start scoring more goals, I’m afraid Gorodeya might drop in the standings. Gorodeya has scored only 2 goals in 4 matches in Vysshaya League so far. In their last Vysshaya League match against Dinamo Minsk at home, Gorodeya was the weaker team with 46% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, and 3 corner kicks, but they were able to score a goal and win this match 1-0. Sajcic and Arkhipov have each scored 1 goal for Gorodeya this season. At the beginning of the season, nothing was working for Gorodeya, they weren’t able to score a goal and were able to produce chances, and their defense couldn’t stop the opponents. In their last two games of the season, Gorodeya has shown some improvement on both ends, but if they can’t keep that up, it will be hard for Gorodeya to be in the top half of the standings. It’s not like Gorodeya was a great offensive team before or defensive team for that matter. Last season Gorodeya has scored only 31 in 30 games, while they conceded 29 goals. Gorodeya is just an average team in Vysshaya League, and they are perfectly satisfied with that.
Energetik and Gorodeya have played 5 times against each other in the past with Gorodeya winning 3 games, Energetik has won 1 game, while 1 game ended in a draw. While Gorodeya stayed on the same level as they were last season, Energetik has shown a lot of growth and they are the better team this season. I think Energetik gets this one.
