Shakhtyor Soligorsk is hosting FK Slutsk at Stroitel Stadium in round 5 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Even though Shakhtyor is one of the best teams in Belarus, they haven’t been playing well this season. Shakhtyor has lost only 1 game this season, but they have only 5 points in the first four games and only 2 scored goals. In the Belarus Cup, Shakhtyor has lost against Dinamo Brest in the first leg of the semifinals. In their last Vysshaya League match against Smolevichi on the road, Shakhtyor was the better team by far with 55% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, and huge 15 corner kicks. The combination of Smolevichi’s good defense and Shakhtyor’s lousy offense, this match ended in a 0-0 draw. Diasamidze and Podstrelov have each scored 1 goal for Shakhtyor this season. Shakhtyor ended last season in third place which got them into the Europa League qualifications, but they are not showing the quality from last season at the beginning of this new season. Shakhtyor has a solid team and I think it’s only a matter of time before they start scoring goals and winning games. At the end of April Shakhtyor will host Dinamo Brest in the second leg of Belarus Cup where they will have a chance to avoid a knockout from the competition. It’s not impossible to catch up a 2-0 loss, but it will surely be hard.
Slutsk is playing in a surprisingly good form and they are in 3rd place in the standings with 7 points, 7 scored goals, and 5 conceded goals. Slutsk has been one of the best offensive teams in the Vysshaya League so far and they scored at least 1 goal in 3 of their 4 games this season. Serdyuk is Slutsk’s leading goal scorer with 2 goals and is expected to be in the lineup for this match. In their last Vysshaya League game against Vitebsk at home, Slutsk has had 54% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 7 corner kicks. Slutsk was losing 0-1 at the half-time but they were able to tie the game in 62nd minute and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Most of the favorites to win the title this season have had a slow start which gave teams like Slutsk and Energetik to show a piece of their talent and what they can do. Last season Slutsk was closer to the relegation zone than to one of the top three spots and I have a feeling that things will be different for Slutsk this season. Slutsk is a solid team with a decent roster and if they will be able to stay consistent throughout most of the season, Slutsk might just end up in the top five.
Slutsk hasn’t won any of their last 3 games against Shakhtyor, but Slutsk is in a far better form. I’ve mentioned that it’s only a matter of time before Shakhtyor starts playing better soccer, I’m not sure this is the game where that happens, but I expect Shakhtyor to score some goals here.
