Vitebsk is hosting Dinamo Brest at Vitebsky Central Sport Complex in round 5 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Vitebsk has been solid so far this season with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. In the first four games, Vitebsk has scored 3 goals, while conceding also 3 goals. Vitebsk is in 7th place in the standings with 7 points. Last season Vitebsk barely escaped the relegation zone, but this season it seems it’s going to be different, at least for now. In their last match in the Vysshaya League against Slutsk on the road, Vitebsk has had 46% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 2 corner kick. Overall, a decent game for Vitebsk on the road. This match ended in a 1-1 draw. Nicolaescu and Klopotskiy have each scored one goal for Vitebsk this season. Vitebsk’s only goal is to stay in the Vysshaya League, sure, they are a bit higher in the standings right now but Vitebsk doesn’t have the quality to retain that spot and it’s only a matter for time before Vitebsk drops to the bottom half of the standings where they belong. Vitebsk is struggling with scoring goals and I don’t see that problem going away anytime soon.
Dinamo Brest is having a really good season where they lost only 1 game in the Vysshaya League and the Belarus Cup. In the Vysshaya League, Dinamo is in 5th place in the standings with 7 points, 6 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals. In the Belarus Cup Dinamo Brest has beaten Shakhtyor Soligorsk in the first leg of the semifinals and will play the second leg at the end of the month. In their last Vysshaya League match against Isloch last week, Dinamo Brest was the better team with 53% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, and 12 corner kicks. Dinamo Brest was losing in the first half, but they recovered quickly and took control of the match. Dinamo Brest has won this game 3-1. Dinamo Brest is the current champion of the Vysshaya League, and even though they had a slow start of the season, Dinamo is showing us their worth in the last few games. Since Dinamo Brest has won the title which got them qualified for the Champions League, winning the Belarus Cup will bring them some additional respect and prestige in Belarus. Dinamo Brest is one of the best teams in Belarus and I believe that once again they will be competing for the title this season.
Both form and the quality are on Dinamo Brest’s side here, and while Vitebsk had some success against Dinamo at home, because of their struggles with scoring goals I don’t see Vitebsk winning this game.
