Dynamo Brest is welcoming Shakhtyor Soligorsk to Regional Sport Complex Brestskiy in round 6 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Dynamo Brest has been playing well this season, both in the Vysshaya League and in the Belarus Cup. Brest has beaten Shakhtyor in the Belarus Cup a few weeks ago 2-0 at home and going to play against the same team in the second leg with a comfortable advantage. In the Vysshaya League, Brest is in 8th place with 7 points, 6 scored goals, and 5 conceded goals. After winning the title last season, being this low in the standings is not what they expected in Dynamo Brest. In their last match in the Vysshaya League on the road against Vitebsk last weekend, Dynamo had 55% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 5 corner kicks. It was a tight match for both teams, but as the game was coming to an end, Dynamo conceded 2 red cards and they just couldn’t handle the pressure. Dynamo Brest lost this game 1-0 by a goal from a penalty spot. Dynamo has scored and conceded at least 1 goal in 4 of their 5 games this season, but without the two players that conceded red cards last week, Dynamo might struggle on the defensive end in their next two games.
Shakhtyor is in a terrible form and they have won just one of their last 6 games. With only 5 points, 3 scored goals, and 3 conceded goals, Shakhtyor is in 13th place in the standings. I was expecting from Shakhtyor to score at least a goal last week, and they did, but unfortunately, their defense hasn’t been playing well for a few weeks now and that cost them a lot of points. In their last match against Slutsk at home, Shakhtyor was actually the better team with 51% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, and 8 corner kicks, but they lost this match 1-2. Given the form Shakhtyor is in at the moment, it will be extremely hard for them to nullify Dynamo Brest’s 2-0 lead from the first leg of the Belarus Cup. A lot of what will happen in the Belarus Cup will depend on how will Shakhtyor play this match in the Vysshaya League. At the moment I have zero confidence in Shakhtyor’s defense, especially against the reigning champion of the Vysshaya League. Offensively, Shakhtyor can produce some chances but their problem is finishing where they do not shine and that is something Shakhtyor’s coaching staff must fix as soon as possible.
The trends are on Shakhtyor’s side in this matchup, but I must take into consideration Shakhtyor’s terrible form right now. It’s not like Dynamo Brest is in that much better form, but at least their defense has been more consistent. I think I will pick something on goals here.
