Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino is welcoming Rukh Brest FC to Torpedo Stadium in round 6 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Torpedo is playing more than solid soccer in the Vysshaya League this season and is in second place in the standings with 10 points, 4 scored goals, and 2 conceded goals. Torpedo hasn’t been overly effective in the attacking part of the game, but they compensated that with more than good defense. Torpedo has conceded a goal in only 1 of their 5 games in the Vysshaya League, and that was in their only loss this season against Dinamo Minsk 3 weeks ago. In their most recent match in the Vysshaya League against Bate Borisov on the road, Torpedo was expectedly the weaker team with only 40% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, and 2 corner kicks, but once again their defense held up and this match ended in a 0-0 draw. Torpedo was only 3 spots away from the Europa League last season, and even though that seems like a small difference, Torpedo was massive 20 points behind Shakhtyor in third place. Torpedo is one of the most consistent teams in the Vysshaya League this season and I really hope they can keep this pace because it will make the Vysshaya League that much more interesting.
Rukh has been hot and cold this season, well mostly cold. Rukh has scored only 2 goals so far this season, but they also conceded only 2 goals so far which makes them one of the best defensive teams in the Vysshaya League. Despite their outstanding defense, Rukh is only in 11th place in the standings with 7 points, but still close to the top pointwise. In their last Vysshaya League match against Minsk at home, Rukh had 45% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. The first half of this game was kind of boring and without a proper goal chance, but the second half got a lot more exciting fast. Rukh scored a leading goal in the 47th minute. The result didn’t change until the end of the game and Rukh won the precious three points. Rukh got promoted to the Vysshaya League through the promotion playoffs and at least for now, it looks like Rukh will stay in the Vysshaya League, and maybe even more. It seems that Rukh’s team has enough will power and quality to compete with the teams in the Vysshaya League and it’s only a matter of them improving their offense and to start scoring more goals. When that happens, Rukh will be safe from the relegation.
Torpedo and Rukh have never met before so there is nothing to compare this matchup to, but I must side with the better team in better form here, and that is Torpedo at home.
