Vitebsk is welcoming Slavia Mozyr to Vitebsky Central Sport Complex in round 7 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Vitebsk has been hot and cold this season, but overall, their season is going well for now. Vitebsk is in 6th place in the standings with 10 points, 4 scored goals, and 5 conceded goals. Vitebsk has 3 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses so far this season. In their last match in the Vysshaya League last weekend against Isloch on the road, Vitebsk was the weaker team with 40% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, and 5 corner kicks. Vitebsk has lost this match 2-0, and deservedly so because they haven’t shown anything at all in this game. Vitebsk has scored at least one goal in 4 of their 6 games this season, while they conceded a goal in 3 of their 6 matches. The defense has been decent for Vitebsk so far this season which is just enough for the spot they are in, but if their offense has been just a bit better, Vitebsk would have been much closer to the top of the standings. Most of the Vysshaya League’s best teams had a terrible start of the season, and with those teams starting to play better, Vitebsk must improve their offense, or they will slowly start to sink in the standings.
Slavia is not a good team and they haven’t won any of their last 4 games, and they lost their last 3 straight. Slavia is in 13th place in the standings with only 7 points, 7 scored goals, and 10 conceded goals, just outside the relegation zone. In their last three games, Slavia has conceded 7 goals, while scoring only 2 goals. Earlier this week Slavia was facing Bate Borisov in the second leg of the Belarus Cup semifinals. Slavia was entering this matchup with 1-0 advantage from the first leg, but I wasn’t giving them a lot of chances because Bate Borisov is in a good form right now, and I was right. Slavia has lost this game 2-0 and got knocked out of the Belarus Cup. In their last match in the Vysshaya League against FC Minsk at home last weekend, Slavia had 52% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, and 8 corner kicks, but unfortunately for Slavia, their defense was not playing well and they lost this match 1-3. It doesn’t matter who Slavia is playing next, the schedule is always tough for them because Slavia is one of the weakest teams in the Vysshaya League and I think they will spend most of the season near or in the relegation zone. That is just the reality of their situation unless of course, some major changes happen, and Slavia starts playing much better soccer.
Vitebsk has won only 1 home game against Slavia, and that was back in 2017. Vitebsk’s home record this season is 3-0-0 and they are playing in solid form. If I look at the trends, I couldn’t just write Slavia off, but Vitebsk is the better team, in better form and I think they get the win here.
