Gorodeya is hosting FC Minsk at Gorodeya Stadium in round 8 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Gorodeya is in 10th place in the standings with 10 points, 4 scored goals, and 6 conceded goals. Defensively, it has been a great season so far for Gorodeya, but unless they can improve their offense and start scoring more goals, Gorodeya’s defense won’t matter much. Gorodeya hasn’t won any of their last 2 games, and they scored only 1 goal in those two games while conceding 2 goals. In their most recent match against Rukh in the road, Gorodeya was the weaker team with 41% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. Gorodeya got the lead early in the second half, but since that moment Gorodeya was mostly defending. Even though their defense was outstanding, Gorodeya conceded an equalizing goal in 91st minute and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Gorodeya scored a goal in only 4 of their 7 games this season, and that is the biggest issue for this team, and issues that must be fixed sooner rather than later. I don’t expect Gorodeya to be anywhere near the top 4 in the standings, but I think they will be in the top half of the standings.
Minsk is not playing well this season and they won only 1 of their last 5 games. During that stretch, Minsk has conceded massive 12 goals, while scoring only 3 goals. Minsk is in 12th place in the standings with 9 points, 11 scored goals, and 15 conceded goals. In their most recent match in the Vysshaya League against Torpedo at home, Minsk had 47% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 7 corner kicks. Minsk conceded 4 goals in the first half, and 1 more goal in the second half. This was a disastrous match for Minsk, a match which they lost 2-5 at home. The next few games for FC Minsk are a bit on the easier side where they should win some points, but we are yet to see how the Minsk players will handle themselves after this terrible loss last weekend. Even when winning Minsk was not playing well defensively, and since the first two rounds of the Vysshaya League, Minsk’s defense has not improved at all. I’ve said this a few times before, Minsk is just an average team in Belarus, a team that will always stay safe of the relegation, but never get close to the top 3 in the Vysshaya League and the Europa League. Minsk’s only chance to get to the European competition is through the Belarus Cup, but they will have to wait next season for that.
Minsk has never lost to Gorodeya when playing on the road, and the trends are on Minsk’s side. Neither of these teams is playing well, but we have seen a lot of goals scored when Gorodeya and Minsk met in the past, and I expect the same here. I will take a stab at the over.
