Neman Grodno is hosting Rukh Brest FC at ZSK Neman Stadium in round 8 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Neman is playing hot and cold this season and they can’t seem to get any consistency in their game. With only 8 points in 7 games, Neman is in 14th place in the standings, a place that leads into the relegation playoffs. Neman has only 2 wins this season, and they were able to keep the clean sheet in both of those games which are telling us that when Neman is playing well, they play well on both ends. In their most recent match against Bate Borisov on the road last weekend, Neman has had only 37% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, and 2 corner kicks. Neman didn’t stand a chance in this match and they lost 3-1. Offensively, Neman is amongst the worst teams in the Vysshaya League this season and they scored a goal in only 4 of their 7 games so far. Neman avoided the relegation zone last season when they ended up in 10th place, but seeing how bad Neman is playing this season, I expect it to be much harder for them to accomplish the same thing this season.
Rukh has been solid so far this season and they haven’t lost any of their last 4 games, although they won only 1 of their last 4 games. Rukh is probably the worst offensive team in the Vysshaya League with only 3 scored goals this season, but Rukh’s defense has been one of the best with also only 3 conceded goals. With 9 points, Rukh is in 11th place in the standings. Neman has three draws in their last 4 games, and they scored only 2 goals during that stretch while conceding only 1 goal. In their most recent match against Gorodeya at home last weekend, Rukh was the better team with 59% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, and 12 corner kicks, but Rukh’s offense failed once again, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. The next two games are the perfect opportunity for Rukh because they are playing against two of the weakest teams in the Vysshaya League, but for Rukh to be successful in these matchups, their offense must start producing goals. Of all the teams that got promoted to the Vysshaya League this season, Rukh has the most quality and is playing the best soccer at the moment. I believe that Rukh will be able to stay outside the relegation zone and that they will be in Belarus’ top division next season as well.
Neman and Rukh have met only once before and that was in a friendly match last year, a match which Neman won 1-0. This is a tough one because neither of the teams is playing well offensively, and consistency is not their forte. I’m gonna go with my gut on this one, which is a draw.
