Eintracht Frankfurt is hosting Borussia M’gladbach at Commerzbank Arena in round 26 of German Bundesliga.
Eintracht is playing hot and cold this season, which is understandable considering they lost two of their best players from last season, Jovic and Rebic. Eintracht is in 12th place in the standings with 28 points, 38 scored goals, and 41 conceded goals. Offensively, Eintracht has been pretty consistent this season, but their defense has been a disaster. In their last two games, one in Bundesliga and one in the Europa League, Eintracht has conceded 7 goals, while scoring zero goals. In the knockout stage of the Europa League against Basel, Eintracht has lost 0-3 at home, and even though there is still the second leg to be played, I’m not liking Eintracht’s chances. In their latest Bundesliga game against Bayer Leverkusen on the road, Eintracht had only 39% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Eintracht has some good players like Silva, Dost, Kostic, and Gacinovic, and I don’t think the lack of quality is their issue, I think the coaching is not good enough and for that reason, Eintracht will be far from the Europa League this season, but still safe outside the relegation zone. Paciencia has scored 7 goals for Eintracht this season, while Hinteregger added 6 goals, and Dost scored 5 times. Kostic has 9 assists. Russ, Torro, and Fernandes are injured.
M’gladbach has a remarkable season and they are in 4th place in the standings with 49 points, 49 scored goals, and 30 conceded goals. M’gladbach is only 6 points away from Bayern at the top of Bundesliga. There are few outstanding players in M’gladbach that can make a difference in any team, but what makes M’gladbach so good this season is their excellent teamwork. M’gladbach has lost only 1 of their last 4 Bundesliga games and they scored a goal in all four of those games, M’gladbach also conceded a goal in all 4 of those games. In their most recent Bundesliga match against Koln at home, M’gladbach had 53% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 82% of the correct passes. M’gladbach has won this match 2-1. Plea has scored 8 goals and added7 assists for M’gladbach this season, while Embolo added 7 goals. Zakaria is the only injured player for M’gladbach, while Neuhaus is suspended because of the yellow cards. I like M’gladbach, I like the way they are playing and more importantly, I love that a smaller team like M’gladbach is in the run for the title. The competition for the title this season is fantastic because we still have 4 teams in the run for the title, but I’m not sure if M’gladbach can win.
When playing at home, Frankfurt has not lost to M’gladbach in their last 3 games. The trends are on the M’gladbach side in this matchup, and they are the better team in better form this season, but Eintracht is capable of surprising anyone at home. I will pick something on goals here.
