RB Leipzig is welcoming Freiburg to Red Bull Arena in part of round 26 in German Bundesliga.
Leipzig has been playing really well this season and they haven’t lost any of their last 7 games before the season was paused, including the games in the Champions League against Tottenham. Leipzig destroyed Tottenham in the Champions League, 0-1 in the first leg, and 3-0 in the second leg. In Bundesliga, Leipzig is in 3rd place in the standings with 50 points, 5 points away from Bayern at the top, and 1 point behind Borussia in second place. With 62 scored goals, Leipzig is the third-best offensive team in Bundesliga, also behind Bayern and Borussia. Defensively, Leipzig has been solid with 26 conceded goals in 25 games, an average of just over 1 goal per game. Leipzig had a few changes in roster before the season, but their biggest change was when they signed coach Nagelsmann, and it was a bullseye. Since his arrival, Leipzig is playing fantastic soccer on both ends and is a legit contestant for the title. In their last Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg on the road, Leipzig had 62% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. This match ended in a 0-0 draw. Timo Werner has scored 21 goals for Leipzig this season and is one of the top goal scorers in Bundesliga. Nkunku added 13 assists. Konate, Orban, Kampl, and Ampadu are injured, while Upamecano is suspended because of yellow cards. Leipzig has enough depth to replace the injured players, and their chances of winning the title are still good, but for that to happen, Leipzig will have to play some of their best soccer starting this weekend, and a loss is out of the question.
Freiburg is safely outside the relegation zone, and not only that, Freiburg is really close to the Europa League, just a point away. This has been a dream season for Freiburg, and they are in 8th place in the standings with 36 points, 34 scored goals, and 35 conceded goals. Freiburg’s form was slowly declining before the stoppage happened, which is normal for a team with smaller depth, but Freiburg is hanging in there and is always giving its best. In their last match in Bundesliga against Union Berlin at home, Freiburg was solid with 52% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 75% of accurate passes. Freiburg was the better team and has won this match 3-1. Petersen has scored 8 times for Freiburg this season, while Waldschmidt added 5 goals. Kubler, Abrashi, Kwon, Haberer, and Gunter are injured and will miss this match. Even though Freiburg is really close to the Europa League, I don’t think they will qualify simply because they don’t have enough depth and the schedule is not their friend. After this match, Freiburg is playing against Werder, Eintracht, Leverkusen, and M’gladbach, all of which are great teams with more quality in their roster.
Leipzig hasn’t lost any of their last 7 games, while they haven’t lost in their last 4 home games against Freiburg. Leipzig is the better team in every aspect of the game here, and if Leipzig wants to stay in the race for the title, they need a win here.
