Borussia M’gladbach is welcoming Bayer Leverkusen in a derby match of round 27 in German Bundesliga.
Borussia is playing fantastic soccer this season and they absolutely deserve to be in third place they are in right now with 52 points, 6 points less than Bayern at the top, and 2 points less than Dortmund in second place. Of the top four teams in Bundesliga this season, M’gladbach has the least scored goals, 52. Defensively, M’gladbach has been solid with 31 conceded goals in 26 games. M’gladbach has only 1 loss in their last 8 games, and they scored and conceded at least one goal in all of those games. In their latest Bundesliga match against Eintracht on the road last weekend, Borussia has had 47% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 80% of the correct passes. Borussia was playing well in this match and they won 1-3. Plea has scored 9 goals for M’gladbach and added 7 assists, while Embolo and Thuram have both scored 7 times for Borussia this season. Zakaria is the only injured player for Borussia M’gladbach. After this match against Bayer, the schedule for Borussia is on the easier side and I think that M’gladbach will stay close to the top until the end of the season because they have a good team, excellent teamwork, and great game style. I think that Borussia can be up to par with offensively superior teams, but for that to be the case, their defense must be on a higher level.
Leverkusen is in the fantastic form and it looks like this two-month break didn’t affect Leverkusen that much. Leverkusen was playing against Werder on the road earlier this week and they were absolutely amazing in that game. Bayer has had 64% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, and 88% of accurate passes. Leverkusen was dominant, calm, and dangerous, and they deservedly won this game 1-4 with two goals from their young superstar captain, Kai Havertz. Kevin Volland has scored 9 goals and added 7 assists, while Havertz added 8 goals for Leverkusen so far this season. Unfortunately for Leverkusen and coach Bosz, Volland is injured and will not be in the lineup. It’s been a while since Leverkusen has lost a game, and thanks to this run, Leverkusen is just 1 point away from fourth place, last place that leads to the Champions League next season. Bayer Leverkusen is one of my favorite teams in Bundesliga and they have immense quality in their roster, but more importantly, those talented players are still young and will become even better with time. The only question is if Bayer Leverkusen can keep them in the club. Kai Havertz is only 20 years old and he is already the captain of one of the most iconic teams in Germany, hopefully, that will be enough for him to stay for another 3-4 years.
I expect this to be a fantastic match filled with chances on both sides. Both M’gladbach and Leverkusen are playing great soccer and both teams are filled with confidence after their wins last weekend. I will take a stab at goals here.
