FC Schalke 04 vs. Augsburg 5/24/20 German Bundesliga Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction
5/24/20 7:30 am
Over 2.5 (-110), Under 2.5 (-110)
FC Schalke 04 is hosting Augsburg at VELTINS-Arena in round 27 of German Bundesliga.
Schalke is in a terrible form and the light at the end of the tunnel is still pretty far for Schalke. With only 1 win in their last 10 games, Schalke is in 8th place in the standings with 37 points, and despite their terrible form, still close to the Europa League. Offensively, Schalke has been decent this season with 33 scored goals, but their defense has been terrible, and they conceded 40 goals in 26 games. Just in their last 5 games, Schalke has conceded 10 goals, while scoring only 1 single goal. Serdar has scored 7 times for Schalke this season, while Harit added 6 goals. Stambouli, Kabak, and Mascarell are all injured and will miss this match. In their first match in over 2 months against Borussia Dortmund last weekend, Schalke was terrible with only 41% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 81% of accurate passes. I get that Borussia Dortmund is a terrific team, but Schalke didn’t even create a serious threat to their goalkeeper in this game and has deservedly lost 4-0. Schalke is safely outside the relegation zone and they will stay in Bundesliga, but if they want to go to the Europa League, Schalke must wake up and start playing the game they are paid to play.
Same as Schalke, Augsburg is also in a terrible form and they have won only 1 of their last 9 games in Bundesliga. Augsburg is in 14th place in the Bundesliga standings with only 27 points from 26 games, and the rest of the season will be tough and intense for them because Augsburg is only 4 points away from the relegation zone. Augsburg is one of the worst defensive teams in Bundesliga with 54 conceded goals, an average of over 2 conceded goals per game. The attack is something that Augsburg has been in a desperate need of over their last few games as they scored only one goal in 4 games, but the goals are just not coming and their defense is not good enough to keep them in the game. In their Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg at home last weekend, Augsburg has had only 39% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and low 70% of the correct passes. Augsburg has a positive 1-1 result until 91st minute when they conceded one more goal, and Augsburg has lost this match 1-2. Augsburg’s schedule is on the lighter side in the next few weeks which could potentially mean a few precious points in Augsburg’s fight to stay in Bundesliga, but they must score goals as soon as possible. Niedelechner has scored 11 goals for Augsburg this season, while Max added 7 goals. Asta, Giefer, and Schieber are injured and will not be in the lineup.
Schalke hasn’t won any of their last 7 games, while Augsburg has lost their last 4 away matches in a row. The trends are on Schalke’s side in this matchup, but neither Schalke or Augsburg are playing well and are struggling massively on both ends. My gut tells me this could be a draw, and I must go with my gut.
