RB Leipzig is hosting Hertha BSC at Red Bull Arena in part of round 28 in German Bundesliga.
Red Bull is in good form, but they played 1-1 in the first game since Bundesliga was paused, and I’m afraid that might have cost Leipzig the title in Bundesliga. In their latest Bundesliga match against Mainz on the road this past weekend, Leipzig was outstanding with 66% of ball possession, 10 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and high 90% of the correct passes. Everything Leipzig missed in the first game, they scored in this one. Leipzig was dominant, calm, and in complete control, and has deservedly won this match 0-5. I expected a win, but not this kind of win. Leipzig is in third place in the standings with 54 points, 7 points less than Bayern at the top, and 3 points less than Borussia Dortmund in second place. With 68 scored goals, Leipzig is one of the best offensive teams in Germany, but with only 27 conceded goals, Leipzig is the best defensive team in Bundesliga. Timo Werner has scored 24 goals for Leipzig in Bundesliga, but he is still 3 goals behind Lewandowski in the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer. Sabitzer added 9 goals, while Nkunku has 13 assists. Ampadu and Konate are still injured. Leipzig has been struggling a bit with finishing their chances, but it looks like that is now gone, the question is if Leipzig can keep it up and jeopardize Borussia and Bayern until the end of the season.
Hertha was hot and cold for most of the season, but they are safely outside the relegation zone. Hertha is in 11th place in the standings with 34 points, just 5 points away from the Europa League spot, to which I don’t think Hertha will get to. In their last two games Hertha was absolutely fantastic with 7 scored goals, and 0 conceded goals. In their most recent match against Union Berlin, Hertha was the better team with 55% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. The first half of this match was tight and tough for both teams, but in the second half Hertha was determined to win and they were able to score 4 goals in the second half, and in the end, Hertha has won this match 4-0. Lukebakio has scored 6 times for Hertha in Bundesliga this season, while Ibisevic added 5 goals. Rekik, Stark, Kraft, and Wolf are injured, while Kalou is suspended. In that match against Union Berlin, Hertha was a slight favorite, but they deserved much more credit after beating Hoffenheim the week before. Hertha has a decent team, but they lack just a little bit more offense for them to be a serious contestant for that Europa League spot they are chasing.
Hertha hasn’t won any of their last 4 games against Leipzig, while Leipzig hasn’t lost any of their last 13 home games. Both Leipzig and Hertha are playing well, especially on the attacking end, and we always saw plenty of goals when these two teams met. I think that Leipzig gets the win here because they are the better team and they need it more, but I also expect goals.
