Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino is hosting FC Smolevichi at Torpedo Stadium in round 11 of the Belarus Vysshaya League.
Torpedo has been in great form, and thanks to that, they are in 4th place in the standings with 18 points, 13 scored goals, and 8 conceded goals. The difference between Torpedo in 4th place and Bate at the top is only 4 points. Even though Torpedo has been one of the best teams in the Vysshaya League this season, they are struggling offensively, and they are inconsistent when it comes to scoring goals. In their last Vysshaya League match against Neman Grodno on the road, Torpedo has had 45% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, and 5 corner kicks. Torpedo had the early lead in the first half, but that was it from them. Torpedo has lost this game 3-1. The season is going really well for Torpedo, and I hope they can keep the pace up because the total dominance of Bate Borisov is not as interesting as 4 teams being in the race for the Vysshaya League title. Defensively, Torpedo is one of the best teams in Belarus this season, if only they could be more consistent in the attacking part of the game, Torpedo would be a much bigger threat to Bate Borisov.
Alongside Belshina, Smolevichi is the weakest team in the Vysshaya League, there is no doubt about that. With only 4 points, Smolevichi is in 15th place in the standings. Smolevichi is still waiting for their first victory this season, but for them to stay in the Vysshaya League, nothing short of a miracle should happen for Smolevichi to save their season. In their most recent match in the Vysshaya League against Rukh Brest, Smolevichi was solid with 40% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, and 6 corner kicks. It was a decent match for Smolevichi, but they weren’t able to score a goal and this match ended in a 0-0 draw. Smolevichi has scored only 6 goals in 9 games, but their defense on the other hand isn’t the worst in the Vysshaya League. Last season Smolevichi was one of the best teams in Belarus’ second division, but the quality difference between the second division and the Vysshaya League is just too big. Smolevichi is the underdog in most of the games this season, and they will remain the underdogs for the rest of the season. I don’t think that Smolevichi has what it takes to turn things around, but stranger things have happened.
Torpedo is the better team by far here, and they have never lost to Smolevichi. Torpedo will look to get back on the winning track after an unfortunate loss last week, and I think they will.
