Sevilla is welcoming Barcelona to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in a derby match of round 30 in Spanish LaLiga.
Sevilla has been playing well this season and they haven’t lost any of their last 6 games. In the LaLiga standings, Sevilla is in 3rd place with 51 points, 2 points ahead of Atletico Madrid. Sevilla has scored 42 goals this season, which isn’t bad, but they can so much better with the talent Sevilla has in their roster. With 30 conceded goals in 29 games, Sevilla’s defense has been solid this season. Sevilla is still playing in the Europa League where they will face Roma in the Round of 16. In their last LaLiga match against Levante last weekend, Sevilla has had 58% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. This was a pretty even match that ended in a 1-1 draw. Ocampos is Sevilla’s top goalscorer with 11 goals. While De Jong added 6 goals. Ever Banega has 6 assists. There are no injuries or suspensions in Sevilla but Navas and Vazquez are only 1 yellow card away from the suspension. Sevilla is having a decent season and they are in the Champions League spot, at least for now, but if Sevilla wants to stay there, they will need to start playing much better soccer in the attacking end.
Barcelona has played two games since the season was restarted, and they have won both, without a conceding goal I might add. Barcelona has scored 6 goals in said two games, but despite that, their defense has been shaky and Ter Stegen was the one that saved them a few times in those games. Barcelona is at the top of LaLiga with 64 points, 69 scored goals, and 31 conceded goals. Being the best offensive team in LaLiga is not easy, but Barcelona has been doing it for years now, and they are looking to stop anytime soon. In their last LaLiga match against Leganes at home, Barcelona was the better team with 75% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and a high 92% of accurate passes. With goals from Fati and Messi, Barcelona has won this match 2-0. Messi has scored 21 goals and added 14 assists for Barcelona in LaLiga this season, while Suarez has 11 goals and 8 assists. Suarez has recovered from an injury just a few weeks ago and he is still getting into his old goal scoring form, but there is no doubt he will be there soon. The biggest problem for Barcelona is that Griezmann is having trouble adapting to Barcelona’s game style and his 8 scored goals are just not enough for a player that was paid an enormous amount of money. Dembele is the only injured player for Barcelona, but Umtiti is suspended because of the yellow cards. The race for the title in LaLiga is tighter than it was over the last few years, but Barcelona is at the top, and hopefully, they stay there.
When Sevilla and Barcelona meet, we usually see an eventful game filled with good chances and goals, and I expect the same here. Sevilla hasn’t lost any of their last 8 home games, and with Barcelona’s defense, it could easily go Sevilla’s way. With everything being said, I will stick with goals here.
