FC Schalke 04 is welcoming Wolfsburg to VELTINS-Arena in round 33 of German Bundesliga.
Everything they were doing well in the first part of the season, Schalke is doing badly since early February. Before the forced break in the season, Schalke hasn’t won any of their last 6 games, and I thought this pause will have a positive effect on Schalke, but unfortunately for them, it didn’t. since the season was restarted, Schalke has played 7 games, and they haven’t won a single one of those games. Schalke is now in 10th place with 39 points and there is no chance for them to get to the Europa League spot anymore this season. Schalke has scored only 37 goals this season, while they conceded 50 goals. In their latest Bundesliga game against Eintracht on the road, Schalke was terrible with only 37% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Schalke didn’t show us anything to deserve a win in this match, and they didn’t. Schalke lost this game 2-1. With only 7 goals, Serdar is the leading goal scorer for Schalke, while Harit added 6 goals, but both of them are injured and will not be playing in this match. Mascarell, Burgstaller, and Sane are also injured and will not be in the lineup. The season is already over for Schalke and all they can do is to try and spoil the plans for other teams, but seeing their terrible form, I don’t think they’ll succeed.
Wolfsburg is a talented team, but their form has been hot and cold since the season was restarted. Wolfsburg hasn’t won any of their last 2 games while conceding 5 goals in said two games. Wolfsburg will most likely end up in the Europa League, but if they want to avoid the qualifications, Wolfsburg must win their last two games, but the problem is that their last game is against Bayern Munich. In their most recent Bundesliga match against Borussia M’gladbach, Wolfsburg has had a bad day. Wolfsburg has had 48% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. They did have some chances in the attacking end, but Wolfsburg’s defense hasn’t played well, and they lost 3-0. 14 of their 44 scored goals this season were scored by Weghorst, while Steffen added 6 goals. Maximilian Arnold has assisted for 8 goals so far this season. Camacho, Karamoko, Otavio, William, and Mehmedi are all injured and will most likely not play again this season. There are a lot of good things in Wolfsburg’s game, but there is also a lot of bad stuff that Wolfsburg must try and fix before the Europa League next season. Overall, a decent season for Wolfsburg.
The trends are on Schalke’s side, but there is no way in hell I’m siding with Schalke this season again. If they don’t win, Wolfsburg will unnecessarily complicate their situation and their chances to get to the Europa League would decline fast, and for that reason, I will side with Wolfsburg.
