Celta Vigo is hosting Deportivo Alaves at Municipal de Balaidos in round 30 of Spanish LaLiga.
For the second season in a row, Celta can’t seem to catch a break and they are not playing well despite having a talented team. Celta is in 17th place in the standings with 27 points, just one point outside the relegation zone. The biggest problem for Celta this season is the lack of offense as they scored only 22 goals, the least in LaLiga. Their defense on the other hand has been decent with 35 conceded goals. In the two games Celta has played since the season was restarted, they still haven’t scored a goal, while they conceded only 1. In their most recent LaLiga match against Valladolid, Celta was the better team with massive 60% of ball possession, which is something that happens rarely for Celta, 4 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. That lack of offense came to light once again here, but Celta had a chance to score in 71st minute from a penalty kick, but Aspas missed and this math ended in a 0-0 draw. Aspas has scored 9 goals for Celta this season, while Santi Mina added 3 goals. Alvarez and Junca are injured and they will not be playing. What can I say, I like Celta and I have faith in them to stay in LaLiga, but for the love of everything holy, get a coach that can get your team to play some offense.
Deportivo didn’t have big ambitions before the season started, the only one was to stay in LaLiga, and they are doing the job. Deportivo is in 12th place in the standings with 35 points, safely outside the relegation zone, but still pretty far from the Europa League. Overall, a decent season with 31 scored goals and 39 conceded goals so far for Deportivo Alaves. Ely and Vidal are the two injured players for Alaves, and they will not be playing. Lucas Perez has been the best player for Alaves with 11 goals and 5 assists, while Joselu added 9 goals. In the two games they played since the season started again, Alaves has scored and conceded 2 goals, but they also conceded 2 red cards. In their last match against Real Sociedad at home, Alaves has had only 34% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and low 65% of the correct passes. Even despite being the weaker team in this match, Deportivo was able to score 2 goals and has won this match 2-0. In the previous article about Alaves, I sided with Deportivo at home, and I was right. Deportivo Alaves is getting the job done and I look forward to seeing them in LaLiga next season as well.
The trends are mixed here, but Celta has had more success against Alaves at home. Alaves are playing well, but they are missing some important players because of those red cards, and for that reason, I will side with Celta who will look to finally score a goal.
