Everton and Liverpool and clashing in another Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in round 30 of the English Premier League.
Everton was in a crappy form before the season was paused and they haven’t won any of their last 3 games in the EPL. Everton has also conceded at least 1 goal in their last 7 EPL games while scoring at least one goal in 6 of said 7 games. At least for now, Everton is in 12th place in the standings with 37 points, 37 scored goals, and 46 conceded goals. With the team this good, Everton should be doing more, and I think they will once coach Carlo Ancelotti makes some order in the locker room. In their last EPL match against Chelsea on the road, Everton was having a bad day and they had only 40% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 1 corner kick, and 79% of the correct passes. The defense was an absolute disaster for Everton in this match and they have lost this game 4-0. Calvert-Lewin is Everton’s top goalscorer with 13 goals, while Richarlison added 10 goals. Lucas Digne has added 5 assists. Tosun and Gbamin are both injured and none of them will be playing again this season. There is a lot of good stuff in Everton, but the players are still adapting to Ancelotti’s style, but once that is over, Overton will be the team that will compete at least for the Europa League.
Just before the season was paused, Liverpool was getting into a bad form and has lost 4 of their last 6 games, 2 in the Champions League where they were knocked out by Atletico Madrid, 1 in the EPL, and 1 in the FA cup. Liverpool is at the top of the EPL with 82 points, massive 22 points away from Manchester City in second place, and it’s likely that Liverpool will finally win the title after 30 years. Technically, Liverpool can still lose the title because there are still 27 points in play this season, but for that to happen, Liverpool would need to lose all of their games, and Manchester City would need to win all of theirs, I just don’t see it happening. Alongside their great offense, Liverpool has the best defense this season with only 21 conceded goals. Mohamed Salah is the leading goal scorer for Liverpool with 16 goals, while Mane added 14 goals. Trent Alexander-Arnold has added 12 assists. Ben Woodburn is the only injured player for Liverpool. In their last EPL match against Bournemouth at home, Liverpool was dominant with 74% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. Liverpool got behind early in this game, but they were able to turn the game around before the half-time. Liverpool has won this game 2-1. Liverpool needs two more wins to secure its so much desired title, and I think they will get it. Overall, Liverpool is playing the best soccer in England and they are one mean soccer machine that Klopp has created.
Liverpool’s away record this season is 12-1-1, but Everton hasn’t lost any of their last 6 home games. The last two Merseyside derbies played on Everton’s stadium ended in a 0-0 draw, but there is no audience this time which means home-field advantage doesn’t mean much. I’m going to side with Liverpool here because they are the better team and they are extremely hard to beat.
