Manchester City host Burnley in the Citizens' second match back from the break. Will Pep Guardiola and the City team pick up another comfortable victory at home, or will Burnley find some shockingly good form to challenge the champions?
Manchester City were superb in their performance against Arsenal this past Wednesday, defeating the Gunners 3-0. Arsenal really allowed City to just control the match, allowing Manchester City to own 67% possession with a 20-3 advantage in attempts at goal and a 12-0 edge in shots on target, and if you give City that much time on the ball, they will make you pay for it. Manchester City has such a good squad, and after having fought off some rust in the first half of the Arsenal match, they seem to be playing extremely well. Man City have been on a roll as of late, winning 4 out of their last 5 matches. Pep Guardiola's men will be nearly at full strength on Monday, and we expect Sergio Aguero to start this match rather than come off from the bench.
This will be Burnley's first match back from the break, and they will not be able to come back in full form. Burnley are missing some key players such as Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes, both out for this match due to injury. Burnley will have to both play with some key players missing, but also have to wear off the rust of not having played for 3 months quickly. Burnley are not a bad team, having won 11 games this season, but they will need to find some exceptional form if they are to challenge here.
The reverse fixture of this match was not a good sign of things to come for Burnley, with Manchester City winning 4-1 away from home. The record between these sides is very one-sided, with Manchester City having beaten Burnley 48 times, drawn 25 times, and lost 29 times. Most of those draws and defeats happened when City was much less of a dominating team and there is no chance that Burnley even get a point from this match in my opinion. City are not playing to win the title, as it is clear that Liverpool will win it, but they are playing to show us what to expect next season. I expect City to come out and put on a scoring show.
Back Manchester City to win and over 3.5 goals in the match.
