Inter is welcoming Sassuolo to Giuseppe Meazza in round 27 of Italian Serie A.
After being knocked out of the Coppa Italia in the semifinals by Napoli, Inter has won their Serie A game against Sampdoria this past weekend. Inter was a much better team in this game with 72% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. Inter was 2-0 ahead in the first half, but they kinds loosen up in the second half and Inter conceded a goal. Inter has won this match 2-1. With this win, Inter has given themselves some hope that they can still catch up to Lazio and Juventus, but I think it’s too late. Inter is in second place with 57 points, 51 scored goals, and only 25 conceded goals. Defensively, Inter is within the top three best teams in Serie A, while they share the third spot of the best offensive teams. Lukaku has scored 18 goals for Inter so far this season, while Martinez added 12 goals. Antonio Candreva has 6 assists. Sensi is the only injured player for Inter, while Vecino and Brozovic are still questionable. Inter started the season great, but there was a short period when Inter was struggling and it cost them the top spot. Inter is still in play in the Europa League, and I hope they will be ready once the competition starts again.
In their first game after the restart, Sassuolo was playing against Atalanta on the road and got demolished. Despite having more possession, 54%, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. Sassuolo’s defense has been a disaster in this match and they conceded 4 goals from 4 shots. Sassuolo has lost this game 4-1. Caputo is Sassuolo’s top goalscorer with 13 goals, while Berardi added 9 goals. Romagna and Marlon are both injured. Before the season was paused, Sassuolo was in good form, but the three-month break left a toll on Sassuolo and it wasn’t good for them at all. Sassuolo is in 12th place in the standings with 32 points, 42 scored goals, and 43 conceded goals, and if they keep playing bad soccer, Sassuolo will sink in the standings, they surely can’t go up, even if they played better soccer. After this game against Inter, the schedule is on the easier side for Sassuolo, so hopefully, they will use it to display better soccer and to win some points that would help them stay where they are, and that is outside the relegation zone.
Inter’s home record this season is 8-4-1, and they are the better team here, but Inter hasn’t won any of their last 4 home game against Sassuolo. Sassuolo is surely capable of a surprise here because Inter is not as dominant as they were in the first half of the season. Taking everything into consideration, I will pick something on goals here.
